Skincare Routine: Kill the Spots!

After reading the lovely a post by the lovely Fee from Makeup Savvy about her new skincare routine I was very intrigued. The basic idea she had was to cut out all the vast sea of products and get 'Back to Basics'. Now I love buying new skincare items but lets face it, after 2 years and £100's worth of products later, my skin is not looking great. I thought its only month out of my life, I'll give it a go.

I suggest you read her original post here. You can then go check out the results here. She explains things far more in-depth and articulately than I can right now. (Bad cold fogging up my brain)

Warning Ugly Naked Skin Alert!

Before:

Sorry for the horrible scary pictures, taken using photobooth and no makeup! But you had to see them otherwise you wont know if it works right? Pffft the things I do for my blog.

First Things First... My Skin Type:

My skin is oily-combination. It can get slightly tight on the cheeks and nose, but oily in the T-Zone. I've suffered from acne for a year or so, which the doctors said was caused my stress and bad diet. Eekk Shame on me! My acne has cleared up but I have a lot of scarring and redness on my skin and I always have at least 4/5 blemishes on my skin. Right now its particularly bad and I can count about 8/9.

My current routine:

Any Cheap Face Wipes
Sephora Eye Makeup Remover
Clinique Liquid Facial Soap
The Body Shop Tee Tree Toner
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel
The Body Shop Tee Tree Blemish Gel
Bio Oil
St Ives Face Scrub for Blemish Prone Skin
Any Lush Fresh Face Mask/Any face mask I have handy

My New Routine:

Botanics Eye Makeup Remover £2.99
SebaMed Cleansing Bar £2.50
The Body Shop Facial Buffer £3
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel £28
The Body Shop Tee Tree Blemish Gel £4

So I've gone from 9 Products for 4 and a scrubber! Not bad.... hopefully I shall get some results soon. Obviously I will only use the eye makeup remover at night, followed by the soap. I shall be using the buffer twice daily to really work the soap in to my skin and to exfoliate. I shall only be using a drop of moisturiser on my driest areas such as my nose, cheeks and my neck. The blemish gel shall only be lightly applied to the worst blemishes, unlike before where i would splodge it all over my face :/

I am also going to make a huge effort to drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day, green tea and eat lots of fruit and veggies, the do say beauty come from within :) Hopefully this will boost my results.

See you in a month time, obviously with beautiful skin....

Weight Loss Tips

Getting Started

Firstly I'm going to be completely blunt with you all, if you are clinically overweight you should really try to lose some weight. I do not believe that only 'skinny' women are beautiful, quite the contrary, but I do believe we should all do our best to be healthy. If you are naturally curvy, I think thats beautiful but you still need to try and keep your BMI below 24.9. If its anything over 30, I strongly recommend doing something about it TODAY!

You can check your BMI Here: NHS Tools - Healthy Weight Calculator

Knowing your Goal

Now you've worked out what weight category you are, you need to set yourself a weight loss goal. How much weight do you want to lose? When do you want to lose it by? Tell someone close to you your goal and write it down. Try and get your family and friends on board, the extra support comes in very handy. Having a goal for an event like a wedding, birthday or holiday is a great motivator, but remember you are not going to lose 3stone in a month!! Aim for a weight loss of 2lbs a week, if you lose anymore thats just a bonus. Steady regular weight loss helps regulate your metabolism, leading to long-term losses.

Remember to take into account your frame, i.e: how 'big built' you are. If you have broad shoulders and wide hip bones and lots of muscle, trying to get down to a BMI of 18.9 is probably not going to happen, be realistic! You can get scales or online programmes that workout your body fat percentage, apparently women of my age (18-24) should be around 20%.

I'm not perfect, no-one is...

You should know I have NOT hit goal, and I need to lose more weight. I've lost 1st 7lbs altogether but I'm aiming to lose another another 1st 12lbs. I am far from perfect and my body fat percentage is WAYYY high.

Now that you know how 'fat' you are, its time to do something about it. There is no such thing as a 'quick fix' and you are not going to magically stumble across an easy answer. The key is to eat less and exercise more! I'll do a separate post on exercise if people want me to.

Tips and Tricks:

1) Water! Drink lots! I recommend filling up 3 bottles of water in the evening and putting them in the fridge. I take some to the gym, some to college/work etc and then one is for the evenings when my cravings kick in.

2) Green Tea & Herbal Tea! If you dont like Green Tea experiment with other flavours - They are full of nutrients and water and have zero calories!

3) Eat Vegetables! Now I dont really like that many and salad just isn't my thing but you need your Five a Day! Try roasting some veggies with garlic, herbs, olive oil, honey and smoked paprika - YUMMY! (I'll try and post some recipes soon!)

4) Keep it under 1600kcals, anymore and you wont be losing weight. Don't starve yourself and dont obsess with calorie counting, it can take over your life! Also PLEASE dont go under 1200kcals, your going to be starving and your metabolism will drop!

5) Eat Little and Often - Small Regular Meals boost the metabolism, keep you full and prevent your stomach from stretching (Post on this coming soon!)

6) Exercise whenever possible, at the moment I'm trying to go to the gym every other day. If I can go most days thats a bonus! Make sure you let your body rest at least once a week, and dont do weight training everyday, your muscles need to recover.

7) Pack lunch, for work/school. This will save you money and help you stay on track. One drink and a muffin at Starbucks can cost you a whopping 1,000kcals!!!

8) Avoid Alcohol It is the only substance on the planet which is more calorific than fat! AVOID! We are all human and the occasional tipple if fine, but hangovers make you lazy and hungry! If you must drink stick to a clear spirit with a slim tonic or diet coke.

Good Luck! I've blabbed on enough, if requested I shall be doing more weight loss posts on things like recipes, exercise ideas, cravings etc.
