Foodie Fall: Homemade Healthy Chai Tea Latte
We all tend to put on a few pounds in the autumn/winter and I have already over eaten this summer and am feeling a little.... porky, for lack of a better word. I love this season, but all the up and coming celebrations revolve around food so I thought it would be a good idea to experiment with some warming comfort food that won't leave me dreading summer come next spring. This first recipe is so incredibly simple a monkey could do it, but I wanted to post it none-the-less because it is delicious and until recently it had never occurred to me to make it - it is, the chai tea latte. This one is dairy free, lower in calories than its Starbucks counterpart, lower in artificial flavouring and preservatives and not to mention MUCH CHEAPER! Without further ado here is the recipe (if you can call it that)
Green Tea Chai Bags (from Holland and Barrett)
1 Drop Organic Vanilla Extract
1 tsp Sweetener of choice (unrefined sugar, honey, stevia- whatever you fancy)
Half a mug of Almond Milk
A pinch of Cinnamon and/or Nutmeg
All you do is steep the tea bag in hot water (in your mug, only fill it to the half-way point). Then add the sweetener, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. While your teabag is steeping heat the milk in a pan and whisk to make it frothy like a latte. Remove the tea bag, pour in the milk and top with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Told you it was easy. Depending on what sweetener you use, and how much there is probably around 50kcals and 20 mg of caffeine in this compared to Starbucks' 179kcal and 75mg of caffeine. Not bad!
Let me know if you try this!
